I own a livery yard in Cleveland with 30 acres, all coming to one point at a very very uddy gateway. We have used the land all winter and the only problem now is the gateway. It gets alot of traffic! The area is approx 10m x10m and due to the awful weather and constant use the holes in the ground from the horses are over a foot deep. They are starting to dry out but this is even worse as the half dry holes make it very difficult for the horses to walk on. What should i do?
I thought about tipping washed stone into the gateway and then having it rolled to form a hard surface for next winter which hopefully will not get as muddy. However i don't know what type of stone and how much i would need. Can anyone suggest something and aybe some advice for next winter as to land management around the gate area?

Thanks
