Our little guy has been getting increasingly antsy when in his car seat for more than 20 minutes and we have a 6-8 hour road trip coming up in a few months. We'll be travelling for 1 day, visiting for 2 days, then heading home. How do we keep him entertained for these longer stretches of car-seat time?

Currently, he takes a 2-to-3 hour nap in the afternoon and hopefully that will continue to be the case when we travel. There are a number of rest-areas along the route but the more we stop the longer it takes to get where we are going.

I'll be travelling later this year and will be doing some safari style tourism in South Africa. My question is what lenses to take for this purpose?

For hiking and general travel, I usually carry a 10-20mm for landscapes and 24-105mm for street/people etc, but I'm thinking that it would be worth taking the 70-200mm (105-300 w/ 1.5 extender) as well for wildlife shots. This is all on 1.6 crop factor cameras.

Is it worth taking all these lenses? Weight isn't so much of an issue, but I'm wondering if I'll get much use of them all.

My wife and I will be taking our 3.5 year old daughter to Walt Disney World this spring. We have the park hopper passes and access to theoretically everything, but I'm sure that's way too much to do.

Does anybody have advice on things to bring, things to do while there, things to avoid or watch out for, etc.? We're looking to make this Disney World trip a memorable family vacation for our daughter. She is very excited to see Mickey Mouse! And the princesses, too... can't forget about the princesses. :-)

I drove to Buffalo, NY over the weekend with some friends, and I bought myself a shiny new Apple iPad. I had to pay New York State sales tax at the Apple Store, as well as declare my iPad purchase at the Canadian border to pay Canadian GST + Ontario PST. So, I've been taxed twice.

I do know that when foreigners visit Canada, they can apply to get GST reimbursed. Does a similar process exist for foreigners visiting New York State, where an application can be made to get state sales tax refunded after-the-fact?

I imagine atleast a few of our community have been to Blizzcon in the past, and I am positive atleast a few of you are planning on going this year. What things do you wish you would have brought to the event (or even just to California) that would of made your trip easier or more enjoyable?

I'll start us off with one suggestion...

bring an extra bag to carry your "goodie bag" home in...

It was a pain trying to collect and get all that stuff jammed into the backpack I had brought, especially the ackward shaped "n00bz" box they gave us.

Also here's another tip:

If you have a choice between a huge poster and something else, take the something else... posters don't travel well :(

Try to post 1 tip per answer, vote up the answers you find useful! I won't make this one a CW, so people with good suggestions can earn a lil rep :)

My wife and I and our son (who will be about 7 months old at the time) are going to Wichita, KS, USA for a vacation early this summer. We need to take one of our strollers with us, and can't decide which.

On the one hand, we have our umbrella stroller, which is nice and compact and will count as carry-on luggage on the plane. However, it is a bit short (I am tall and have to bend over slightly to push this stroller) and it has no space to put things like a diaper bag.

On the other hand we have our Graco Travel System stroller. It is positively huge (barely fits in the trunk of our car) and we would need to "gate check" it at the airport, incurring a $35.00 fee each way. It is easier to push and has a place to put a diaper bag.

We are planning to do quite a bit of walking (the zoo, a space museum, a science center, the park across from the house we are staying at).

So, really the question boils down to, is it worth it to suck up the $70.00 charge to have the better stroller with us?

Mom needs to take a trip for a few days, and needs to leave 2.5 year old son and dad at home. This will be the first time he's been separated from her for longer than ~12 hours at a time. Is this too early for him? Will he freak out? Is it a bad idea in the first place?

Son and dad have a very close relationship, but he's not entirely weaned off the boob just yet either. He is to the point where he doesn't need it before bed, but he often wants it, but is able to get to sleep with dad and without the boob pretty frequently.

We also have grandma next door, and they're pretty close as well. So he has lots of support at home. But mommy is mommy.

What do you all think?

POST-TRIP UPDATE

As predicted, mom had a harder time than son did. Son handled mom being gone with no problem, and the trip went great.
